Blue Line Leadership is a 32 hour professional development course presented over four consecutive daysThis Track I course is designed for, and limited to, police officers, deputies, FTO’s, corporals, & detectives of all tenure and assignment, including patrol, administrative, investigative, and specialized assignments. Non-sworn members without supervisory rank are also welcome to attend.   

 

This is a great course for those influential peer leaders on your team; those who are thriving and those who have become disenfranchised, frustrated, or disappointed; those emerging leaders who desire to promote or achieve coveted specialized assignments; and those who desire a deeper and broader understanding of our chosen profession.  

 

Topics of instruction will include leadership at the ground level; mental conditioning and professional commitment; trust, credibility, and police culture; procedural justice, constitutional policing, de-escalation through personality assessment, and wellness; followership’s leadership responsibility; and resilient leadership and self-reflection.  

 

Students completing this course will deepen their understanding of leadership, followership, and self to improve their work and personal relationships with others. Information and skills developed in this course will assist the student in gaining a broader perspective of the law enforcement profession, the personalities that exist in it, teams, culture, history, followership responsibilities, and leadership from wherever they’re at within the police organization.  

 

This course is restricted to police officers, deputies, FTO’s, corporals, detectives, dispatchers, and non-sworn members of all tenure and assignment, including patrol, administrative, investigative, and specialty unit assignments. No supervisory or management ranks of sergeant or above should attend this course.   

 

Each student will receive a class notebook and exercises specifically designed for students to demonstrate understanding of concepts presented.   

Target Audience

Blue Line Leadership is specifically designed for and restricted to: deputies, police officers, FTO’s, corporals, detectives, limited commission, and non-commissioned personnel of all tenure and assignment, including patrol, corrections, support staff, administrative, investigative, and specialized assignments.

No supervisors, command staff, or executives should attend this course for the class to have the types of open conversations it needs to have about today’s law enforcement profession.   

Career Level Certification

Completion of this course counts for 32 hours towards elective hour requirements for Career Level Certification and annual 24 hour training requirements for Washington State law enforcement and corrections personnel.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for obtaining permission and approval from their departments prior to registration if the student plans to attend on-duty and have the agency pay for it.  You know the rules.  

If you want to attend, we recommend working with your agency prior to registering for a class. Because if you register for a class, and your department does not approve your time or tuition for any reason, you are still responsible for the terms of the attendance and cancellation policy including any applicable tuition. Again, we know you get it.
